Immersed in search

PicLens logo
OK, so you’ve got the minimal approach to search typified by Google, but what if you’re after something a little more exciting. Well PicLens can offer you a full-screen, 3D, visual solution to searching and browsing images and video.

Web site footwear

The footer, as if to warrant its physical position in life, can often be left until last during the design process, like some sort of digital outcast. To the contrary, the footer deserves so much more attention than that. It can often be the next port of call in the event of a site’s navigation lacking a link that a user feels should be there (most commonly, this is a link to contact details). It can reinforce a brand, offer up exciting tools and just simply finish of a page in an aesthetic way. Read the rest of this entry »

The FOWD logo
After visiting the Future of Web Design last year, I thought I’d attend again this year taking my trusty sidekick Jack along for the ride this time. Once again it was a very interesting day with top-quality speakers. Read the rest of this entry »

Dusted and the credit crunch

It is pretty hard to ignore the rising panic amongst banks, consumers and Gordon Brown as Britain’s economy (allegedly) plummets uncontrollably into decline. Recently it has been difficult to pick up a paper without every headline describing sub-prime markets, falling house prices and rocketing interest rates so you’d be forgiven for thinking now would be about the worst time to re-launch a financial services web site. Or would it? Read the rest of this entry »

Separated at birth: Dusted and DairyCo?

New DairyCo Logo

Today’s Design Week revealed a fresh new (and apparently, less expensive) identity for the DairyCo – the new name for the Milk Development Council (MDC). According to the agency behind it, the new logo is “… about promoting openness and freshness in its bright colour scheme…” though we think it bears a slight resemblance to our own ‘D’ logo – what do you think?

Terra Firma voted BVCA Site of the Month

The BVCA (British Private Equity and Venture Capital Association) today voted the Terra Firma web site, Site of the Month, April 2008. The BVCA each month highlights a web site from the private equity and venture capital industry. They went onto commend the recently published Annual Review, saying “Terra Firma’s Annual Report published earlier this month is an impressive reflection of the way buy-out houses are becoming much more open and responsive to wider audiences.”

Dusted at Web Directions North

Web Directions North

Web Directions North 08 wrapped up a few weeks ago and I have finally found time to write up my notes. As with dConstruct 2007, all of the speakers were excellent and although I didn’t get to see all of the presentations, here are my notes on most of them. Read the rest of this entry »

Happy fourth birthday Dusted!

According to leading childcare experts, ‘energetic’ and ‘imaginative’ best describe the 4-year-old. They feel good about the things they can do, show self-confidence, and are willing to try new adventures. I’d say this pretty much sums up Dusted as we reach our fourth birthday.
