Moving images taken with a DSLR

Still taken from Vincent LaForet’s Reverie video
The quality of DLSRs has vastly improved of late, but as with all great technology, doing one thing really well just isn’t enough. Video recording has been a feature on digital cameras for a while, but I have never seen quality like this from any stills camera before.

Canon gave Vincent Laforet a pre-production model of their new EOS 5D Mark II camera and he recorded a short movie, Reverie.

The result… Well the quality of the footage taken is breathtaking, and the movie on the Canon site has been sized down by a quarter! There has been no post-production on the clips. It is made up of the raw footage taken. I think I know what camera we’ll be looking at when it’s time to upgrade ours.

You can read more about the making of the movie at Vincent’s blog, as well as watch a behind the scenes video.
