This is called the E8 graph. It is one of the most complicated symmetrical structures ever studied, a 248-dimensional shape known as E8. And it is the basis of a new “Theory of Everything” by Garrett Lisi. Read the rest of this entry »

Well it’s that time of year again but as you get older it does seem that Christmas loses a bit of sparkle. Well that and being slightly frightened of the flying monkeys in The Wizard of Oz. So in an attempt to try and revive those exhilarating feelings I thought I’d take a look back to see what the fuss was about. Read the rest of this entry »

I was in Regent Street today and thought I’d nip in to the Apple Store and browse leisurely though all the general coolness. Unfortunately, several thousand others had decided to do the same, but I doubt they were all after an 85W MagSafe Power Adapter! Read the rest of this entry »

I’m happy to hear that the production of Wattson by DIY Kyoto is now in full swing. If you have not heard or seen this product and call yourself an eco-aware designer you need to get one and plug it in at home in order to measure how much electricity you use daily. My mother always use to tell me that education starts from home and she is definitely right! Read the rest of this entry »

A friend always used to ask, “Hey Jack, what colour can you see because I can not see the correct colour”. Sim Daltonism is a colour blindness simulator for Mac OS X. In real-time it filters the area around the mouse pointer and displays the result just as it would be seen by a colour blind person. For us designers and artists, choosing the correct combination of hues either from the pantone book or from the swatches option in Photoshop is so important due to the fact that it plays a major part in the process of creativity. I made it back from the mountain! I’ve had a fantastic experience, although at times it felt like I wasn’t going to make it back. But then it also felt like the whole world had disappeared and all that was left was me, my frozen extremities, a never-ending slope of loose rock and a few disembodied head torches.
