Delete your files, Tempo to the rescue

TEMPO external trash canThis is a neat piece of peripheral device which is designed to mimic the look of a trash can. TEMPO is a unique hard drive storage device. Intended to protect the user from accidentally deleting files, it can also be used as an external storage device. As you delete files, they are automatically copied to the TEMPO. It is still just a concept by Cagnina Design which hasn’t been technologically designed but I can’t wait to try it out. Read the rest of this entry »

Jamie and his magic iPhone

iPhone HeroThe iPhone finally went on sale here a couple of weeks ago, at last! I had been anticipating the launch since the announcement a few months back, at which point I was happy to hear that Apple were joining forces with AT&T, the network I had a contract with.

Choose your JavaScript toolkit

For some time now JavaScript enhanced and Ajax driven web applications have been attracting a huge amount of interest. With so many of these applications popping up, it is very difficult to keep up with latest industry developments. Although Dusted’s applications aren’t heavily reliant on JavaScript or Ajax functionality, we do use them both to enhance the user experience. Our methods generally rely on Script.aculo.us and Moo.fx libraries. Read the rest of this entry »

Develop for Facebook

Facebook PlatformBack in 2005 the wife first told me about Facebook and how she couldn’t help but spend hours on there, communicating with her college pals. As it was a college only town back then I couldn’t experience it for myself, which I was quite happy about considering I had no time to write on walls! Read the rest of this entry »

I’m going in… Cover me

I’ve been listening to podcasts pretty much since they started. Since then, subscriptions have come and go, but one has been there pretty much since the off. Coverville is a rather superb production going out roughly 3 times a week. As the title suggests it’s all about cover versions of songs. Features include “Cover Stories” where you get to hear several artists covering just one, “Listener Requests” which doesn’t really need explaining and also music trivia. Get a direct link to subscribe in iTunes as well as links to the other podcasts I subscribe to after the break. Read the rest of this entry »

Google gears up

No surprise here with Google announcing another new product. Google Gears is an open source browser extension that lets developers create web applications that can run offline. Gears allows users to cache and serve application resources (HTML, JavaScript, images, etc.) locally. There is also functionality to store data locally in a fully-searchable relational database. I’ve had a test drive and it looks great.

The road to convergence

When I first saw this product it looked like something that would be very inviting and playful to use. I couldn’t imagine that this came out of a Microsoft lab but hey, life is full of surprises and Microsoft Surface is one of them. Read the rest of this entry »

Google prepares to buy FeedBurner

feedburner3.jpgSo why does Google really want to buy Feedburner? I think the main and most obvious reason is because Google has realised that most of us are now getting and speed reading our content via a RSS Reader, instead of reading the originating websites/blogs that display Google AdSense or Rich Media adverts.
