Cloud computing and sustainable virtualization

Having just recently installed Live Sync, after a long and hard thought whether to indulge myself with Windows products. I begun to enjoy my first steps in exploring the capabilities in which cloud computing could help improve the way that I work. Cloud computing is here and is spreading fast, while an ongoing battle for attainable virtual computing are being waged by the big technology companies.

What is Cloud computing?
Cloud computing has to have atleast two components to it; one of those components have to be virtualization. This is the sharing of resources by multiple applications, multiple users and enterprises.
The other essential component is from distribution, which has to be decentralized.

There are some widely available software’s which allows us to enjoy the concept of virtualization. You can upload data on a virtual server only to access it at another location. Until recently I have been using Dropbox which have been very useful in copying and sharing files on a virtual server but I’m now ready to explore the horizon.

“Sun Microsystems just announced its variation of virtualizing data. They will release a set of open application programming interfaces aimed at developers, students and Web startups.”

This good news will hopefully bring more opportunities for designers, creatives and developers to try out their ideas and share under the creative commons license instead of allowing the top software companies to dictate the foundations in which these ideas would be adopted.

Scalability
Size has always been one of the underlining factor in which a technology is adopted by the masses. Dropbox’s usability is seamless but the storage is limited hence the reason why I’m leaving to try out Live Sync for a more unlimited cloud space.

Sustainability
The main aim is to “utilize the assets or resources efficiently so as to maximize customer service levels, minimize lead times, and optimize inventory levels”. If we could move away from building more and more silos and adopt cloud computing, we could see companies access resources out of the cloud for any of their IT needs which would help companies cut their carbon footprints.

Cloud computing could be an insight in which we module how we use technology to address global environmental issues.
