House of Cards

Radiohead’s latest video for their single House of Cards is, in true Radiohead fashion, a little bit ground-breaking. The video was recorded without light and without cameras. Instead they employed a couple of scanning technologies that mapped the scenes in 3D. They could then use the raw data to create the video using various rendering options and show the scenes from any angle they desired.

As the video is recorded purely as digital spatial information it means that as well as offering a standard pre-rendered video they could also create an interactive video which allows you to navigate the environment as the performance continues. So you can rotate around Thom York’s head as he sings the lyrics. See the video below but to get hands-on view the interactive 3D version. You can even download the raw 3D data and create you very own video, if that’s what spins your wheels.

This movie requires Flash Player 8
