Marauding masses queue for iPhone

I was in Regent Street today and thought I’d nip in to the Apple Store and browse leisurely though all the general coolness. Unfortunately, several thousand others had decided to do the same, but I doubt they were all after an 85W MagSafe Power Adapter!

The marauding masses were all there to pick up the new iPhone, which launches in the UK today (at a rather specific 18:02). The queue stretched right around the corner, controlled by a few dozen stewards and a couple of beat bobbies. The people at the front had been there all night and sat through freezing temperatures, torrential rain and no doubt quite a few strange looks from passers by. Oh, and one or two press interviews too (lunchtime today saw quite a few journos and TV crews present).

Journo interviews iPhone geek

It’s quite a lot to go through for ‘just’ a piece of technology, but then yesterday, a gold, sequinned mini dress coursed a similar stir when the Roberto Cavalli collection went on sale at H&M just up the road in Oxford Street.

Could you call both events a fashion frenzy?
