Feed me Seymour, feed me

Sam here at Dusted asked me “what Blogs do I read?”. I said, “where do I start”. Strictly speaking I visit very few Blogs, but I do subscribe to several Blog RSS feeds. So for Sam’s enjoyment, and hopefully yours, here is my list. Read the rest of this entry »

You can’t turn a tanker round with a speedboat change

A photographer friend of mine told me today he didn’t want to be a photographer anymore, but instead, was going to be a ‘digital imaging poet’. Sounded like a great idea to me and we arranged to ‘touch base about it offline’ later (during one of our regular ‘idea showers’). We’ll no doubt be ‘getting our ducks in a row’ while looking to ‘leverage a holistic cradle-to-grave approach’ too. I think. Not sure… Read the rest of this entry »

The footer, as if to warrant its physical position in life, can often be left until last during the design process, like some sort of digital outcast. Web 2.0 ‘distracts good design’

So says Jakob Nielsen in this article on the BBC News web site. I’ve always considered Nielsen as ever-so slightly over-zealous in his usability beliefs and on this subject I feel no different. However, if you dilute his opinions down they can be a bit easier to swallow. It is true though, as he says, that many firms are ‘turning their backs on the basics’, although it is entirely possible to get the basics right and still use Web 2.0 technologies to make the experience even more usable. You just need to know what you are doing, as has always been the case.
